Agrigent temple Erice view Segesta sicily Segesta temple

This trip will take you to the Western part of the island. First, you will visit the small town of Erice, a beautiful village, which has played a part in numerous legends.

Erice is located high on a hilltop and provides a spectacular view of the salt-works of Trapani, the Aegadian Islands, and the bay of Bonagia.

In antiquity, Erice was a cult place for worshipping the goddess of Venus. You will get an idea about its mythical atmosphere by strolling along the picturesque alleys of the town. After lunch we will continue our journey to Segesta, where you will have the chance to discover the well-preserved and wide-spread temple grounds dating back to the 5th century B.C. This imposing monument is the only remaining relic from which was once a big Elymic settlement called Segesta. After we finish our tour of the vast grounds we will return to Cefalù in the late afternoon.
