of Sicily's Northern coast is called "La Caldura" or Calura. It is situated on the eastern side of the Rocca, very close to Cefalù. The origin of the name is vague, the most likely origin is the Greek word "kalòs" (pretty) or "kallos" which means beauty and "oreuo" (shelter, refuge), therefore it means "pretty shelter". It could also have its roots in the Latin term "calidum" which means heat or warmth. Other sources refer to the Arab word "Calhur" which means "shiny eastern beach". Even if the linguistic origins are uncertain, we are certain that La Caldura is one of the last untouched beautiful patches of nature in all of Sicily. It is a world of its own with giant rock formations, little hidden bays, beaches and of course, the sea. At its top, right between cactusses, you will find an antique tower, one of many along Sicily's coastline. Once, used to spread important news all over the island within an hour, they echo with a rich history of ancient civilizations. In imediate proximity to this treasure of nature lies Hotel Kalura, opened in the 60's by the Curcio family and family-operated ever since.
