Let's wake up your stomach

Drinks which are supposed to stimulate the appetite where already popular in Antiquity. The Romans called these drinks "Aperitivum" deriving from the Latin word "aperire" which means to open. (to open to stomach, without doubt) Their most favourite drink was the honeywine Mulsum. Nowadays, the word aperitif refers to a collective term for all alcoholic beverages which are consumed before a meal. There is no common rule which drinks are preferable in this occasion. The whole range includes fresh dry white wines, rose wines and sherries, port wine, beer, fruity brandies or cocktails.

Now, very popular in Italy are sweet tasting aperitifs consumed before a meal.
